What is this blog?
Update Wednesday 5 May 2010 9.30pm – on Wednesday 5 May 2010 6.25pm guardian.co.uk published this Anti-Tory tactical voting guide which supersedes the advice on this blog (link to the guide).
A summary of the 2010 UK general election Anti-Tory Tactical Vote advice from guardian.co.uk (the Guardian and the Observer) from the (1st and 2nd May) weekend before the election.
It features the advice for LibDem supporters (link) and Labour supporters (link) on different pages for clarity (and features the relevant constituencies in which they should tactical vote for an Anti-Tory party.)
PLUS updates from other online newspapers as they publish more relevant advice:
Tuesday update, from the Mirror – mirror.co.uk – Anti-Tory tactical vote guide (link to the guide)
Wednesday 1pm update, the Independent – independent.co.uk – endorses Anti-Tory tactical voting and says:
‘That is why we argue that there is a strong case for progressively minded voters to lend their support to the Liberal Democrats wherever there is a clear opportunity for that party to win.‘ e.g. Labour supporters should vote LibDem in these constituencies (link).
‘Yet in those constituencies where there is likely to be a close fight between Labour and the Conservatives, there is an equally strong case for voters to cast their ballot to keep out a Tory party which incarnates this discredited “business as usual” approach to politics.’ e.g. LibDem supporters should vote Labour in these constituencies (link).

Why is this blog?
Although both the Guardian and the Observer (on guardian.co.uk) have advocated an Anti-Tory Tactical Vote and stated which constituencies, guardian.co.uk does not feature a simple clear summary of the constituencies, so this fills the vacuum. it was only on Wednesday 5 May 2010 6.25pm they provided a simple clear summary.
A letter in the Guardian of 4 May 2010 asks of the Guardian:
“You point out the dangers under the present electoral system of a Lib Dem vote in some constituencies having the reverse of the desired effect; so too can a Labour vote. The calculations are sophisticated and complicated, and even at this stage it is not too late for you to do the sums for us and publish a comprehensive list of constituencies and how to affect the outcome”
Using the constituencies that guardian.co.uk has already published on 1 and 2 May 2010, this is a summary.
What of guardian.co.uk is it a summary of?
The 1 May 2010 (a day earlier online) Saturday Guardian leader article which advocates LibDem supporters voting Labour in specific constituencies (“supporting Labour to prevent a Conservative win”) links to an article of relevant constituencies – a clearer summary of that.
The 2 May 2010 Observer article which advocates Labour supporters voting LibDems in specific constituencies features the relevant constituencies – a clearer summary of that.
